Our favorite publication — Physicians Practice.com — recently posed 10 questions for healthcare givers to ask coders who are applying for their business.
Fair enough. Doctors should be educated on who they’re hiring. And in kind, you should be ready with answers. Today, we’ll deal with the first five questions.
1. How long has this billing company been in business? The key here is being honest. If you have 20 years experience, great. If you’re just starting out, say so while promoting your other attributes. Maybe you’re just opening your business, but have done coding for others. That counts, too.
2. How many certified coders does this company have on staff? Like we said, the truth is the truth. But, you can spin it different ways. A big company can boast big numbers, but a one-man band can concentrate on the client exclusively.
3. How many medical practices in your specialty does this company service? Most coders work a variety of healthcare givers. Very few specialize in one type of practice. So, this question is really irrelevant.
4. What technical capabilities does this company have? OK, this is up your wheelhouse as part of ClaimTek Systems’ software with more extras than a Spielberg movie. Go down the list of what you offer.
5. How many claims are submitted electronically? Uh, all of them.
